Weaving Putiputi

I helped Liam to weave Putiputi today.

In the beginning

A long long time ago. Papa and Rangi and their six sons lived in a dark, dark place. The six sons were bored and tired. One son said “We should kill Rangi and Papa” Another said “Push Rangi and Papa apart”. So Tane tried to push them apart but it was too hard, so he put his legs straight and pushed them. Rangi was feeling sad and Papa was sad too. Tu was sad so he dripped rain down like a waterfall. “Yo Tu. Why are you crying”?

“Because I miss Rangi and Papa and so Tu became the Man of War. Tangaroa became guardian of the sea. Tawhirimatea became god of winds & storms. Hamia  became guardian spirit of wild and uncultirated food and Rongo became God of peace and agriculture. Now when it rains Maori people like Rangi the sky father. Love story
